Operation Rescue Ethiopia exists to rescue children from poverty, abandonment, and abuse, providing a safe home, quality education, nutritious meals, and loving care so every child can thrive.
A future where every Ethiopian child grows up safe, educated, and full of hope, regardless of their background or circumstance.
Operation Rescue Ethiopia was founded with the opening of our first childcare centre in Mekelle, Tigray. Starting with just 3 children and a committed team, the vision was clear: every child deserves safety and education.
Recognising the need in Adigrat, our second centre opened its doors to 50 children from vulnerable families. The project has grown steadily and continues to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment.
Our third branch opened in Adwa with 50 children. As the project grew, the government recognised the value of ORE work and provided land for the organisation to build its own facility.
A partnership with local farming cooperatives enabled a daily two-meal programme across all branches, improving health outcomes measurably.
Our teams adapted rapidly, delivering food packages to over 1,000 households in the Tigray region when schools closed and families faced severe hardship.
Following regional conflict, our centres undertook major rebuilding, restoring services and welcoming back children who had been displaced.
Our newest branch in Maychew opened directly in its own building with 50 children, a testament to the trust the government placed in ORE following its positive impact across Tigray.
A new 6-room classroom block opened at Mekelle. Over 610 children are now in our care across all four branches with an expanded volunteer team.
Every interaction starts with dignity, empathy, and unconditional love for each child and family.
We believe learning is the most powerful tool against poverty. Every child in our care attends school.
We train local staff, partner with local suppliers, and build lasting community institutions rather than dependency.
We are rooted in the Tigray region. Our programmes are designed with and for the communities we serve.
Donor funds are managed transparently. We publish annual reports and welcome audits.
We honour Ethiopian culture, language, and heritage in all our programmes.
We have rebuilt through conflict and crisis. Our commitment to the children never wavered.
We believe every child, regardless of their start in life, deserves a future full of possibility.
